ORF TOUR – WEDNESDAY June 17, 2026
Trip Plans:
The destination for the Wednesday June 15, 2026 ORF is Shirley’s Soul Food Kitchen, Toccoa, GA with a stop at Mountain Air Park, Cleveland, GA. We’ve made this run several times over the last 10 years. We have all enjoyed looking at the “toy’s” Bennet Aiken has in his hanger at Mountain Air Park. Everything from a 1954 Piper Cub, an MGB or 2 in need of restoration, several radio controlled model airplanes in various sizes, a small powder coating operation, he also installs interiors in boats/airplanes and cars. He does outstanding restoration work on old British cars. He’s in in the final stages of restoration on a Healey 3000 that is exceptional. Once we tear ourselves away from Bennets hanger we’ll head for lunch at Shirley’s Soul Food Café.
From the outside, Shirley’s is not very pretty or welcoming. In fact, if you didn’t know it was in an old, run down brick building with blue lettering on the windows you might pass right by. However, the inside of Shirley’s is neat and tidy and the food is very good. It’s a meat, plus two veggies, corn bread or biscuits, with cobbler for desert kind of place. A few pointers/requests:
- There are multiple opportunities to join/leave the tour in route in order to make it more convenient for you to participate. Please contact Tom Nadelhoffer to discuss alternatives
- If you plan to participate please send Tom Nadelhoffer an email advising the # of participants, your cellphone # and if you plan to eat breakfast and/or lunch with the group no later than Monday June 15.
The tentative schedule/route is:
- 08:30am – 09:15am: Breakfast at Dawsonville IHOP - 4117 Dawson Forest Rd E. Dawsonville, GA
- 09:15am-09:30am: Tire kicking and drivers meeting
- 09:30am – 10:00am: Depart IHOP for drive to Mountain Air Park OGE5 Runway Circle. Cleveland, GA
- 10:00am – 11:30am: Bennet Aiken’s Hanger
- 11:30am – 12:30pm: Drive to Shirley’s Soul Food Café
- 12:30pm – 2:00pm: Lunch – Shirley’s 124 W Currahee St. Toccoa, GA
- 2:00pm: Head for Jaemor’s for ice cream with Tom or home on your own using your GPS ..your choice!!
